DBPR Reminds Contractors to Finish New Education Requirements Before August 31

TALLAHASSEE—The Department of Business and Professional Regulation wants to remind all certified contractors that they have until August 31 to finish their continuing education hours, which must include one hour of laws and rules-related training.  Contractors that do not adhere to the new rule or fail to provide proof of the required training will not be allowed to renew their license.

In addition, all general, building, residential, roofing, specialty structure and glass and glazing contractors must complete one hour of continuing education related to wind mitigation methodologies as part of the 14 hours that is currently required.

The new rule resulted from House Bill 7163, which was passed during the 2007 Legislative Session.  The bill revised the continuing education requirements for certified and registered contractors by requiring one hour of laws and rules-related continuing education as part of the 14 hours that is currently required in each licensure cycle. 

Although certified contractors only have until August 31 to complete the mandatory continuing education, registered contractors will have until August 31, 2009 to complete the requirement.  For more information about education requirements, please visit www.MyFloridaLicense.com.
