ITEM 3. Respectfully submit the STATE OF FLORIDA AUDITOR GENERAL Report No. 12936 Operational Audit of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for the Period January 1,1995, Through December 31, 1995, and Selected Department Actions Taken Through July 16, 1996. April 2, 1997.

RECOMMEND APPROVAL

ITEM 4. Respectfully submit, pursuant to Chapter 11-1, Florida Administrative Code, competitively procured Consultant Contract B-859, which provides for the comparative evaluation of criminal justice training programs in Florida with those of other selected states. The contract will be executed upon approval of the Governor and Cabinet, pursuant to the above referenced F.A.C. chapter. Consistent with Legislative intent expressed in the 1996-97 General Appropriations Act, this evaluation will be performed by an independent third party, with no vested interest in the system. The contract amount will not exceed $150,000. The major work tasks and products required are to be completed by December 5, 1997. The ultimate result of this evaluation will be a report of findings and recommendations regarding officer selection criteria, training, certification, and retention and funding for officer training. Through this evaluation, criminal justice officer training needs will be identified, enhancing the Criminal Justice Standard and Training Commission's responsiveness to the needs of the state and the citizens it serves.
